Isabelle Adjani, fantôme dansant dans “Possession” 1981 – Isabelle Adjani, dancing ghost in “Possession” 1981

By stopping the images, we are amazed to discover that Adjani’s face has the appearance of that of a ghost, faceless, eyesless, with white teeth drawing a disturbing and grotesque pattern, with the features melting into one terrifying white magma… Was this intended by the director, does it represent the state of mental decay of the character going crazy… mystery, but the effect is fascinating, you would think you were seeing paintings by Francis Bacon.

Ridley Scott’s film “Alien, the Eighth Passenger” is a masterpiece of fantasy and science fiction cinema, even prompting some critics to coin the term “horror science fiction” specifically for it. It’s also a fetishistic film about technology when we see how carefully the decorations of the interior of the ship were created, but also the details of its exterior structure, as well as the multiple close-ups of the computer screens.
